My Favorite Pie Tools
Here you’ll find all of my favorite pie tools! There’s a few items I absolutely cannot live without, and a few others that are really nice to have if you bake a lot of pies.

Baking a perfect pie can come down to the tools you use. Some of the items on this list are pie must-haves (in my opinion), like a pastry blender, rolling pin, and a really great pie dish. And some are “nice to haves” that make baking easier, like pie weights or a pie crust shield.
But everything on this list is sure to help you bake a better pie. Whether you’re a new baker starting out, or shopping for a gift for someone else, read on to see the best pie tools that I use and recommend!

Pie baking must-haves
These are the tools I use every time I bake a pie, and that I couldn’t do without! Every pie enthusiast should consider stocking these in their home kitchen:

Pastry Blender
A pastry blender is an absolute must when it comes to making homemade pie crust, and you’ll find it’s useful for plenty of other baking recipes too.

Rolling Pin
Feel free to use whatever rolling pin you have that works best for you, but I love my french-style rolling pin. It has tapered ends that make it easy to grasp, giving me more control for even rolling.

Bench Scraper
A bench scraper is super handy to have while you’re rolling out pie crust, plus it makes cleanup afterwards a breeze!

Ceramic Pie Dish
I’ve used a variety of pie dishes over the years, and I’ve found that ceramic is my absolute favorite. It conducts heat much better than glass and therefore bakes a better pie, but it also looks so lovely! Invest in a good one and it will last you for years.

Aluminum Pie Pans
These aluminum pie pans are a fantastic option that’s a bit more budget-friendly. They also work very well to conduct heat and bake pies evenly.
Additional pie tools
These tools aren’t completely necessary, but they can be very helpful!

Pie Weights
You can use dried beans or rice, but a set of ceramic pie weights will last you forever. They transfer heat evenly and are easy to clean and store. (These packages are quite small, so you’ll likely need 2.)

Pie Shield
I usually cheat and just use foil, but a ceramic pie shield is easier, does a better job, and it cuts down on waste.

Baking mat with measurements
Take the guess work out of rolling out pie crust and other pastries! Plus this mat also has temperature, weight, and measurement conversion charts right at your fingertips.

Pastry Wheel
Perfect for slicing crust strips for a lattice or other decoration. A 2-in-1 double wheel means you can choose either straight or scalloped edges.

Pastry Brush
I didn’t put this on the must-haves because you can get away without it, but I brush every pie I bake with an egg wash before baking. It makes all the difference in presentation!

Kitchen Scale
Take the guess work out of baking, and use the right amount of ingredients every time! All of my baking recipes include gram measurements and I encourage you to use them as they’re more accurate than measuring by volume with measuring cups.
Now you’re ready to bake a pie! Here are a few favorites:
