Tin Can Margaritas
Margaritas for a crowd couldn’t be easier!
You know what your summer needs? A night with friends filled with fun, laughter, and a big pitcher of margaritas.
And I am 100% here for you with the easiest big-batch margarita recipe. It all starts with a can of frozen limeade concentrate which you then use to measure the rest of your ingredients— tequila, triple sec, lemon juice. Dump it all into a pitcher with some ice and you’re done!
These margaritas are, of course, best shared with others. And the “recipe” can easily be scaled up or down as needed to fit the size of your gathering.
So have a few (or more) friends over, make a big pitcher of margaritas, and enjoy! Cheers!

Instructions
- In a large pitcher add the limeade. Use the limeade can to measure out the tequila, triple sec and lemon juice and add to pitcher. Add ice.

Notes
- For easiest mixing, let the lime concentrate thaw before using.
- If the lime flavor is too tart for you, you can add 1 can of water.
This looks so refreshing and perfect for the summer.
I so wish I could be having a margarita with you right now!!!
Oh so do I! Soon, my friend. 🙂
I have used this recipe, yes. It’s a somewhat old one and I always use Grand Marnier.
how many margaritas does this make?
It makes 8 margaritas.
How ambitious are you? 😉
Hi, do you need to add water when you make the limeade? Can’t wait to try these!
No need to add water! The alcohol “waters down” the limeade enough. 🙂
It was too syrupy if I didn’t add water. I used 2 cans water. It was perfect!
Can you freeze this for frozen margaritas?
What a great idea! I’d blend about 2 quarts of ice cubes together with the remaining ingredients to make frozen margaritas. Work in batches per the size of your blender.
Can the leftovers be frozen for later enjoyment?
Can any leftovers be frozen for later enjoyment?
Sure! Though with its high alcohol content it probably won’t freeze solid. It should also store well in the fridge for several days, just keep it covered to keep out any odors.
Hi! Thinking about making these for a shower; we are expecting about 30 people, and I’d be putting the batch in the large Pottery Barn dispenser (https://www.potterybarn.com/products/895862/?catalogId=82&sku=895862&bnrid=3380801&cm_ven=Google_PLA&cm_cat=Shopping&cm_pla=Feed&cm_ite=Google%20Base-895862&kwid=productads-adid^154040358229-device^c-plaid^91703615611-sku^895862-adType^PLA&gclid=CLiWipujvtQCFYgkgQod2F4HCA)
Do you think tripling the recipe is enough?
Hi Beth! Sounds like a fun shower. 🙂 How many batches you’ll need will depend on how thirsty your guests are! I would bet on 3-4 batches for 30 people. Better to have too much than too little, right?
Add orangewedge in the mix. ?
Thanks for sharing! I’m excited to try these with some girlfriends tomorrow night. Can I ask where you got the pitcher? I love it!
I added a can of water to make it go further and it is fine. I had lemon sugar for the rim and used a lime wedge for garnish. Very pretty and very tasty!
Making this today and I don’t think there will be any leftovers to worry about!!! Sounds easy enough. Thanks
Can I use a strawberry one instead of the limeade one to make a batch of strawberry margaritas
Sure! That’d be a fun twist!
Good blended with ice, too.
Oooh yes, I bet!!
Love this simple and easy recipie. It tends to be a little tart for me so i add a can/bottle beer. I call it a beerita!!
What a fun addition!
nice one…
Idea how to make this recipe into jalepeno margaritas?
You could add one sliced jalepeno to the pitcher for a bit of a kick!
I have been making this for years, I do add 1/2 to one can of water depending on my people. I also add about a third of a can of amaretto to make an Italian margarita. It’s yummy
Do you think I could use Real Lemon lemon juice instead of squeezing real lemons?
No! They do not taste the same. Don’t ruin good alcohol with inferior ingredients. ?
I didn’t squeeze real lemons. I used Sicilia lemon juice in a plastic bottle (found in the produce section). It’s not from concentrate and it was fine.
Can I use fresh limes instead of lemons?
Fantastic margaritas! I used 2 cans water and 1 1/2 -2 cans tequila. Couldn’t be more simple. These are my new go to… thanks so much!
I can’t find frozen limeade anymore. Do you have a recipe to make your own that would work for your tin can margaritas? Thanks
Hmm. I have noticed that frozen juice concentrates are getting harder to find and I’ve learned which stores near me carry frozen limeade. As far as a substitute goes, I don’t have any solid suggestions. Perhaps google can help?
Homemade limeade
1/2 c fresh limes juice (about 6 limes)
2/3 c sugar
2 quarts water
Add lime juice to pitcher and stir in sugar until dissolved. Fill pitcher with cold water. Chill.
About 12 limes make a cup. Found on Pinterest.
Total waste of tequila.
How come!? Did they not turn out well? Seems like a pretty straightforward recipe??
Yum! Added about a can of water ?
As I was reading through these comments I saw some had added water. I haven’t made this yet but would instead add some lemon lime soda instead. This would give a little fizz to the drink. I have a margarita recipe that uses sweetened lime juice (Geroux) so will use that instead of the hand squeezed just because it’s what I have on hand. Will whip up a batch this weekend.
What the heck is a “can”
This recipe is based off of the cans of frozen limeade you can find in the freezer section. One can is 12oz liquid.
.
Every college student knows how to do this!
Not everyone learned this in college! Some of us much, much later. Just trying to help out the rest of us! 🙂
Easy and yummy! I added one half can of sparkling lime water.
Can u make the tin can margaritas ahead of time and put in fridge
Yes absolutely! It should keep well for several days.
Absolutely Yum! Enjoyed so much!
i didn’t try it, but this recipe sounds awful. the limeade is meant to make roughly 48 ounces of limeade. this used limeade and alcohol. needs probably 2.5 cans or water to make it drinkable.
Can you make this in 4 qt ice cream maker for frozen ones? Thank s
Hmm, I haven’t tested this frozen, but now I want to!
