How to toast nuts
Toasting the nuts before using them in a recipe greatly intensifies their natural flavor and adds a little extra crunch. It’s a worthwhile step and it’s super easy to do!
In the oven— Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Place nuts in a single layer on an ungreased sheet pan. Bake for about 10 minutes, shaking the pan every few minutes to rotate the nuts and promote even toasting. Nuts are done when they are golden brown and you can smell them. Remove from oven and let cool.
On the stovetop— Place nuts in an ungreased pan over medium heat. Shake the pan often to rotate the nuts and promote even toasting. When nuts are golden brown and you can smell them, remove from heat. Be careful to watch them closely so they don’t burn. Remove from the pan and let cool.
Note: When the recipe requires chopped nuts, it’s best to toast them whole and chop them once they’ve cooled.
