The December 2009 Daring Bakers’ Challenge was hosted by Anna of Very Small Anna and Y of Lemonpi. They chose Gingerbread Houses!

Rolling out the Gingerbread

Gingerbread
Since December is always such a busy whirlwind I almost didn’t participate in this month’s Daring Bakers Challenge, but my Mom suggested that we make gingerbread houses while I was in town for Christmas and everyone, including me, got excited by the prospect of having actual gingerbread. I’ve made a lot of “gingerbread houses” in my life, but all have been made out of graham crackers. I must admit that using actual gingerbread, while it was a little more work, was different and fun.

I had high hopes of making a beautiful and sophisticated house fitting for something like a Martha Stewart magazine cover, but once we got going I lost all ambition. I was caught up in the commotion of ten people crowded around the kitchen table and dazzled by all the candy surrounding me. I ended up with a typical fun house covered in icing and candy. It was a fun Christmas activity and my family all had a great time making them.
