Sunday Stuff 11/9
Happy Sunday! Come see what I’ve been up to this week, plus some of my current faves and new finds.
Halloween is now in the rearview mirror, and that means the holidays are upon us and approaching quickly. Whether we’re ready or not. I’m in full Thanksgiving mode and even looking ahead to Christmas. This year I will not be caught off guard!
Fall is holding on tight with lots of bright sunshine and warm days, but still I’m daydreaming about holiday menus and brainstorming gifts. You can’t be too prepared, right?
Speaking of the holidays, the first of many Thanksgiving pies is coming your way tomorrow. Stay tuned!
If you’re a food blogger, you gotta see the gorgeous photo surfaces from Erickson Wood Works. I love the double-sided one I purchased a few months ago. You can see examples here and here.
Going to try this single serving 5-minute apple crisp from Pinch of Yum asap.
This week John discovered the selfie. Uh oh. Watch out, world!

Last night my husband and I finally watched Chef. We loved it! It’s charming and filled with so much fabulous looking food. Don’t watch it hungry!
Homemade vanilla extract is a great DIY gift, for Christmas or any occasion. Yesterday I put a few bottles together (I told you I was thinking ahead!). Here’s how to do it:
3-5 vanilla beans (depending on size), sliced open lengthwise
1 cup vodka, bourbon or rum
Combine vanilla beans and liquor in a jar. Store out of direct sunlight for 1-2 months before using. Make it today and it will be ready in time for Christmas! FYI, I buy my vanilla beans online.
And that’s it for today, friends. Have a lovely week!
I think I am just as big a lover of vanilla as chocolate! I use a great item from Neilsen Massey which has the inside of the vanilla bean with the extract, it’s a paste and makes everything taste so wonderful! Thanks for the post!!
Thanks for the great post! I made my first jar today and plan to make more this week for Christmas gifts.
I love making homemade vanilla extract and these photos are so pretty!
Thanks for the link to the Etsy shop for photography backgrounds–it’s just what I needed! Miss you! 🙂
1 – CHEF was so good. Probably my favorite movie this year. I need to make that pasta dish he cooks up for Scarlet Johansen.
2 – Love me some homemade vanilla. Your bottles are adorable.
YES! When you figure out that noodle recipe, let me know!
I should have mentioned that Food & Wine included in one of their issues! Here’s the recipe.
