Holiday Baking Tip: A Well Stocked Pantry
Are you prepared for the holiday baking season? Having a well stocked pantry ensures you’re ready to tackle it all— cookies, gingerbread, fudge, toffee and more.
I try to stock up on the essentials before Thanksgiving and never let my supply get too low, so I’m ready when I get the itch the bake. When I buy ingredients like flour and sugar, I always buy double, because I go through it much quicker than I think I will.
Here’s what I currently have in my pantry. A quick note: this list is by no means comprehensive, but a list of what I’ve found to be the most important for me and my kitchen. Your list may read differently depending on your preferences.
Pantry Must Haves
All-purpose flour
Whole wheat flour
Granulated sugar
Brown sugar
Powdered sugar
Unsweetened cocoa powder
Old-fashioned rolled oats
Baking powder
Baking soda
Table salt and coarse salt
Nuts— pecans, walnuts, and almonds
Shredded Coconut— sweetened and unsweetened
Pure vanilla extract
Pure peppermint extract
Spices like cinnamon, cloves and ginger
Chocolate— bittersweet, semisweet, and white
Pumpkin Puree
Molasses
Honey
Corn syrup
Dried or fresh cranberries
Fun seasonal candy like candy canes, M&Ms, etc.
Not only is a well stocked pantry important, but it’s helpful to have your fridge stocked as well!
Fridge Must Haves
Unsalted butter
Whole Milk
Heavy Cream
Buttermilk
Large Eggs
Is there anything missing from my list? What do you stock in your pantry for holiday baking?
Growing up I always took for granted the fact that my mom stayed stocked up on baking supplies year round. Then I went to college and found myself making trips to the store every time I wanted to make cookies or pretty much everything (eggs would always be my downfall..I don’t eat them so I would never think to buy them!) Now I make sure to always have everything on hand! Only thing I would add to this list is peanut butter…maybe not considered a baking must have…but I loveeee peanut butter cookies a for the holidays!
Haha, I have to smile about your list, as I also have one 😉 I always make sure to have all the basics at home, as I usually start baking spontaneously and hardly ever really plan and go to the shops for especially that 😛
love your list <3
I love a well stocked pantry it gives such a feeling of well being and I know I can get baking at a moments notice!
Yep! Yep and Yep!
You might want to add cream cheese, sour cream and unsweetened chocolate, too. Happy Holiday baking everyone!
One more thing I always seem to run out of in the middle of baking projects– cupcake liners, of all sizes, especially minis which can accomodate homemade candies as well as cake.
Such a great post and so helpful. Although I’m always taking inventory of my baking supplies throughout the year, I do a big overhaul around Thanksgiving when the grocery store begins to stock fresh baking supplies. And it’s even better when they run specials on baking supplies since I start to do my holiday baking projects and need extras of everything. I’m having so much fun reading your posts–you are sharing some amazing recipes and they are all making it into my recipe binder. Hugs! xo
