Canning Week 2014
September is here! (Wow, that happened fast.) And that means it’s time for my second annual Canning Week. Yay!
This year I’m teaming up with a few of my dearest friends, and fellow canning enthusiasts, Becky of Vintage Mixer and Kelley of Mountain Mama Cooks. All week we’ll be bringing you new canning and preserving recipes and ideas. Plus, read on to find out how you can win a fun canning prize pack!
Kelley, Becky and I are all Utah locals. We were introduced through our blogs, but our friendship now goes well beyond the world of blogging. We often get together to make and bake food, and in the late summer we gather for “canning days” where we work hard to put up fresh produce for the winter.
Each year we use a few favorite, tried-and-true recipes, and try some new ones too. Here are a few old faves, plus be sure to check back all week for new recipes. Oh, and don’t forget about the giveaway below!

I’ve never canned anything before, but I would love to give it a go! Strawberry jam is probably my favorite.
I used to can with my mom when I was younger but have only canned jam on my own. I would love to do more.
My Grandma makes the most amazing spicy dill pickles! I’ve never done my own canning, but I would love to learn.
My favorite thing to can is fresh tomatoes from the garden. This year I want to make some vegetable soup.
Everything looks so delicious! I’ve been slacking on my canning this summer. But I think you’ve all inspired me now! XO
I love canning whole garden tomatoes in their own juice. They are easy to get on the shelf and so versatile! I throw them in pasta sauce, chili, soups, and use them to make blender salsa all winter long. LOVE them! Such a cute week and I’m so looking forward to all the recipe. Three of my favorite bloggers!
Apple butter and apple sauce!
I really need to start canning. Everything looks fantastic.
It’s a tie between jam and my mom’s dill pickles. So easy, but such a big payoff.

I’ve been doing a lot of canning lately but I’m still most proficient at jam. My star jam is Blackberry/Lemon?vanilla Bean – it’s exactly what it sounds like and is pretty great.

The most fun I’ve had canning this summer was with my sister–we canned dill pickles with 4 different levels of dill and spices. It’s been fun opening the jars (we couldn’t wait) to test the tanginess of each recipe.
I am new at the canning thing so I’m still doing the freezer jam but I love it!

Dill Pickles!
Every year I think about canning, but I haven’t done it yet. I think I’m a little worried about not doing the hot bath part correctly. I do make freezer butters (apple and pumpkin) and I blanch and freeze vegetables. This giveaway may be the kick in the pants I need to start canning.
I haven’t canned yet, but I have always wanted to, I mean for years. I thought it was hard. I guess not to hard from reading. I wonder if you can “can” bbq sauce? I make it all the time and would love to make big batches less often. I’ve always wanted to make custom pickles and jam, oh yummy!
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen canned BBQ sauce recipes out there. Just make sure you use a recipe specifically for canning. I don’t have a recipe, but I’m sure a good canning book and/or the internet can help you out. Happy canning!
We love to can tomato sauce!
I LOVE to can. I am not sure I have a favorite. I think the whole process is beautiful. I love that my organic veggies can be preserved for my family for the upcoming winter. I like jelly/jams so I guess that would be my favorite. However, I love pickles, soups, and tomato products a lot too. So far this year we have 91 jars of canned food 🙂
91 jars??!! You are super woman! That’s awesome!
I’ve never canned, but plan on starting soon; I’m going plant my first garden, so I’m hoping to can tomatoes from it.
I love to make apple butter
my sister does the best jelly ever
