2013 Summer Bucket List
As I mentioned in my BlogHer Food recap, I’m switching things up. In addition to my traditional recipe posts, I also want to share fun stuff like my summer bucket list. When coming up with this list I didn’t intend for it to be all about food, but it should come as no surprise that food is not ever very far from my mind.
Make popsicles. Would you believe I never have? I’m eyeing these simple molds or thinking about trying this easy mold-free method from Baking Bites.
Make the most of local farmer’s markets. I want to head down to the farmers market as many Saturday mornings as possible to grab a little breakfast and some local produce.
Find a u-pick farm: I remember picking strawberries from a local farm in Washington as a kid, but I have yet to find anything similar here in Utah. This year I’m on a mission.
Do more food preserving: I did some last year with batches of marinara sauce, peach jam and frozen fresh corn. Inspired by Mountain Mama Cooks and Simple Bites, I’m planning much more for this year!
Ice cream Sundays. Last summer I made it a goal to make a batch of homemade ice cream every Sunday, just for the fun of it, and I’m gonna keep it up this year.
Keep up my garden: This year we have a pretty sizeable garden and I am so excited about it. We’re growing tomatoes, zucchini, peas, beans, kale, spinach, peppers, and herbs.
Discover new summer cocktails. I have a lot pinned to a board on pinterest, but have yet tried none of them. Time to change that!
And apart from food…
Go camping. I won’t attempt it until John is walking (not crazy about the idea of him crawling through a campsite), so hopefully we get a chance before the summer is up.
Baby and Me swim class. John loves the water and so do I. Now I just need to find a local program that will work for us.
More hiking, more picnicking, more pretty drives, more barbecues. I’m going to make the most of my summer. Are you going to make most of yours? What is on your summer bucket list?
Looks like you’re going to have a busy yet amazing summer! Actually my plan for the next few months is just to relax after a hard school year. But, obviously, apart from relaxing and chilling on the sofa, I’m going to try out lots of new recipes I’ve marked down but haven’t had the time to make so far; I’ll be reading a lot. I SO love reading. I’ll try and go to my local farmers’ market as often as possible. And, another important thing, I’ll try and spend much more time with my little puppy, Maya!
By the way, love this new kind of posts! Looking forward to the next ones 🙂
xo, Elisa
Reading is such a good bucket list item! I love to read too but don’t do it near enough. Enjoy your summer and thanks for the comment!
What a fantastic bucket list. Sounds like you’re going to have a fantastic summer. I’d love to do some more preserving with you this year!
We should totally do some group hikes, would be great to escape and plot new recipes 🙂 I need to do a bucket list too. You and Kristen from Dine and DIsh have inspired me to. Keep the life posts coming!
Love the group hike idea! We should get Kelley and hit some trails!
Such a fun post! I love that you are starting to include posts about your other interests. When I started writing posts that were about things other than food, I found that I felt more creative and enjoyed sharing other parts of my life on my blog. I wish I lived near you so I could learn canning from you! I got canning supplies from my mom last year and have yet to attempt it. I’m looking forward to reading more of these posts! 🙂
Aww, I love this list, Annalise! Sounds fun, summery and perfect for you and your family. Your garden is looking great, and I love your goal of finding a pick-your-own farm and making homemade jarred sauces. I want to do that with pasta sauce… just make dozens to have throughout the year. I’ve become such a pasta sauce snob!
I love putting together my summer bucket list! Homemade ice cream and camping are always on mine, too. This year I’m really hoping we get a decent amount of peaches from our orchard so I can add peach-preserving, too!
So jealous that you have a peach orchard! I bet those peaches are amazing.
Swimming and baking are on the top of my summer list!
2 of my favorite pastimes!
Hello from the White Nights!
(St.Petersburg,Russia) My name is Alena.
Elisa,so long watched you and everything
didn’t decide to write in any way…) I tried
a lot of yours the recipes and each time
trying a new dish. I was surprised how
harmoniously you select ingredients and
what useful and tasty dishes turn out!)))
Also I want to thank you for very useful
information and fascinating articles…)))
You have such tasty and completely
delicious photos!
Later,
Alena.
Good one! I’m dying to try u-pick, too. If you’re in or near Salt Lake I know of a few around: Grandpa Mike & Glade’s Farm in South Jordan, Green Acres in Draper, and of course Farnsworth’s in Sandy. I know there’s also a u-pick raspberry farm down in Payson (Raspberry Patch?) and I’m determined to get down there this year and get a bunch for raspberry jam.
I’m also jealous of your great garden. We’re in the middle of house selling/buying right now but hopefully next year I’ll have a nice garden, too.
I am in Salt Lake! Thanks for all of the great local recommendations!
I’ve been making a ton of popsicles with Lucas this summer. We both love the green ones! (He does because of Hulk and I do because it means everyone is being healthy.) Also, I happened upon this link from my friend and it seems like there are a ton of picking farms in Utah! http://www.pickyourown.org/UT.htm Hope you’re having a wonderful summer so far. =)
Thanks for the link! I’m already making some berry picking plans. 🙂
